My wife, sister and I drove from Annapolis, Maryland to hear Ernesto play at the Vivace concert with the Pennsylvania Academy of Music. We were not disappointed! It was in the their beautiful new building and concert hall with magnificent acoustics.

Ernesto is on the faculty there. He played Vivaldi’s Concerto for Guitar in D Major. As you watched him you could see the enjoyment he was having playing and interacting with the students. A great artist enjoys other artists of all ages and and all levels. He’s one.

Dear Ernesto,

Thank you so much for performing last night. Your performance of the Tres piezas by Rodrigo was my favorite, with excellent clarity and tone. Also, Arada was played with great spaciousness and feeling.

All the best to you,

I am a student of the classical guitar and have had the pleasure of experiencing first-hand the superb artistry of Mr. Ernesto Tamayo during his recent performance of a JS Bach lute suite (BWV 2006a) with the Washington Bach Consort at the Harmon Center in Washington, DC.  I was impressed with Mr. Tamayo's musical talent.

Ernesto Tamayo gave a moving performance at Wheeler Concert Hall on 3/28/08 for the Evansville Classical Guitar Society.

He performed works by Bach, Barrios, Torroba, Mangore, Ponce, and Brouwer.  All were done
with wonderful warmth and fluidity.  His musicality is unmatched.  It was a totally memorable evening.

It was amazing! The faculty and students LOVED the performance, students bought the CD's and asked for autographs even!  The favorites seemed to be the song to "Bella" and 'La Ultima Cancion".  It was a very special day and I loved getting a glimpse into the Ernesto's creative process. It was a very special day on campus.

A Review of a  Private Lesson with Ernesto!

The lesson could not have been better. It was great. His instruction was fantastic !  He is an excellent teacher. Very personable and not condescending concerning what he has accomplished

He gave me a lot to work on and I am looking forward to it.

He takes each step carefully and gives the reason behind each of his methods. This helps you to understand where he is taking you.

Thanks,

I had the pleasure of catching a performance of Ernesto’s at Andie Musik in Baltimore. I was amazed by his technique and interpretation of the diverse pieces that he performed. We were treated to a candid interview prior to the performance which gave us a window into the creative process and insight into the life and culture of this amazing musician. It was evident that Ernesto is the rarest of performers, he enjoys sharing with his audience as much as performing for them. In addition to his major talent, his approachable nature makes him the perfect ambassador to bring his art and classical guitar music to a broad audience

Ernesto was a treat for all the people who attended, including myself. Most of the people that attend my community concert series here are new to classical guitar and they absolutely adored his playing and lined up to get Ernesto's autograph on the CD. I enjoyed the whole evening. The acoustics at the church here are excellent. Not too much echo and allows for the warmth of his Humphrey to project.

Ernesto's concert at the Katy Guitar Guild Salon concert was beautiful, elegant and breath taking.  He also had a good sense of humor and told a few anecdotes about the composers and repertoire during his concert.  The audience found him to be charming and elegant.  I was told it was a MUST to hire him for the 'Classical Minds' Guitar Festival and again through the guild.  I look forward to re-hiring Ernesto in the fall of 2009.

Thanks!

We had the great honor and pleasure of hosting two houseconcerts, featuring classical guitar virtuoso Ernesto Tamayo. Ernesto played selections from his most recent album "Classical Persuasions", featuring the works of Lauro, Weiss, Brouwer and Rodrigo. The audience was in awe of his flawless performance and incredible technique. The sound was so perfect and sonorous it almost didn't seem real! Many of our guests commented on Ernesto's seemingly effortless technique.

After receiving a standing ovation, he treated the audience to an encore performance of an untitled piece from his upcoming album of original works.

We were fortunate enough to attend his master class at Mesa State College. What a treat! We were amazed by the instant transformations in the quality of the student's playing after only a few minutes of instruction. An invaluable experience for any serious guitar student.

Ernesto's performance was an
unforgettable experience for us and for our guests. Thank you so much for giving us this delightful opportunity!

It is almost impossible to tell you how much my family and I enjoyed having Ernesto as our house guest. He charmed us all, including our daughter, dog, and cat. He is really a super guitarist and a wonderful person to be around. If I told you how much I learned from Ernesto while he was here, you would be billing me for thousands of dollars.

I am mostly impressed with his desire and genuine effort to maintain and promote the guitar as a serious concert instrument.

The masterful sounds of the guitar are still ringing in our ears.It was an honor to be entertained by an artist that we can only refer to as "The Maestro".

I thought Ernesto was great.! This was one of the best concerts I've seen for some time. My favorite part by far was the Brower pieces. I love Brower and have never seen them performed live. They seem so hypnotic. I look foward to seeing him again.

Chuck Mccroskey - Knoxville Guitar Society

Ernesto Tamayo's interpretation of ,"La Ulitima Cancio'n", by Mangore was the most beautiful and skillful interpretation I have heard in all of my 86 years. His tremolo was flawless, on tempo, and his Humphrey guitar allowed him to move from string to string without the slightest change in tone. My eyes were moist.

The overall program was itself very balanced so that the ear was never challenged. The six composers of his program represent the bed rock of the classical repertory; Weiss, Mangore', Torroba,Ponce, Brouwer and Rodrigo. His preservation of their intentions deserves serious reconsideration by those who would be more novel or less challenged in their work. My hat is off to Ernesto!

Joe Franklin - Knoxville Guitar Society

Ernesto brings a class and a charm to the classical guitar in ways that I have not heard in a long time.

His variations of music are both astounding and pleasing to the ear. He is a master of feeling and emotion and this is evident in all that he performs. He is very masterful of Torroba and Barrios both sets were an absolute a joy to listen too. He proves that the classic guitar is still one of the most powerful expressions of raw emotion there can ever be on a musical instrument. I hope to see him perform again sometime!

It was a privilege to see Ernesto Tamayo playing three concerts in Spain.

Either in the intimate atmosphere of the VI century church of his first concert or in the spectacular cathedral of his last one, he played with sincerity, conviction and grace.

The repertoire was really demanding but it was flawlessly executed.

Ernesto, Thanks for the great show in Reno! Our audience really enjoyed your playing and your encore was greatly appreciated.

"The best thing," said guitar maker David Daily, as he polished one of his new guitars in his shop in Sparks, "is hearing your guitar played in an intimate concert setting by a player who possesses not only the technical skills to play the most difficult repertoire effortlessly, but also possesses the passion and maturity to fully explore the emotional intent of the composer. Ernesto Tamayo is such a player."

Daily and Tamayo have been friends for nearly 20 years. Tamayo has played to sold-out concerts at Reno's First Congregational Church before.

"I love coming to Reno," Tamayo said. "The concerts have been a big success, (and) I have also had many memorable experiences."

Tamayo described a trip to Pyramid Lake with Daily a few years ago.

"I am from Cuba and have only heard of such places in the movies," he said.

"The lake was incredibly beautiful and it was amazing seeing the rock art."

And of course he gets to catch up with Daily.

"I love to see David's work. I am always telling him not to change his guitars," he joked.

The chemistry has been good between these two since the beginning. Tamayo, now an American citizen, came to the United States with only the promise of a scholarship at a music conservatory, a bag of clothes and a not very good guitar.

"I traded my guitar for his factory guitar," Daily said, "and Ernesto went out and immediately won the first competition he entered with it."

Since then, their professional progress has been steady. Daily shrugged his shoulders.

"We weren't thinking of money when we threw our lot in with the classical guitar," Daily said.

"In this business, I think you need to describe success as doing what you love. I have managed to make guitars for 30 years. I've sold them all. I'm not sure how it can get any better than that."

Unless of course, it's hearing your guitar played in concert by Ernesto Tamayo.

David Daily- Guitar Luthier

Tamayo predictably reaps kudos for displaying prodigious command of his instrument; more importantly, he rivets listeners with the way he balances romantic melodicism with intensely focused technical precision. His performances are distinguished by rhythmic fluidity, harmonic elegance and crisp, unerring attack; there are no choked notes or rushed arpeggios. There's also little to none of the spontaneous passion that can erupt from more furiously percussive flamenco guitarists — which can make listening to his music a more intellectual than visceral experience — but his tonal clarity and articulation are striking.

Similarly impressive is Tamayo's depth of knowledge of the canon of instrumental works for classical guitar. His fourth and most recent CD, “Classical Persuasions,” released last fall, gracefully melds 19th-century Venezuelan and European waltzes with lighthearted joropo dances, baroque compositions, obscure minuets by Silvius Leopold Weiss, a John Williams arrangement of “Cordoba” from Catalan classical guitarist Isaac Albéniz's “Suite Iberia,” and former professor Leo Brouwer's more modern, sometimes atonal “Tres Apuntes (Three Drafts).”

Elegant! Clear and fine as the most exquisite crystal, this describes the concert I heard at the Twilight Concert Series by guitarist, Ernesto Tamayo. Ernestos' interpretation of J. S. Bach was pure, true to Bach's composition, and played with
precission that flowed musically throughout the phrases.

Powerful, lilting, vibrant and inspiring - The program I heard performed was without a doubt one of the most enjoyable evenings I have spent in a concert in many months.

Ernesto Tamayo is certainly one of the finest guitarists I have ever heard. I strongly encourage anyone to look for and plan to attend any future concert by this outstanding musician. You will be enthrawled by the beauty of his performance.

"I spent the day in Washington, DC on Sunday January 28, 2007, to hear Cuban guitarist Ernesto Tamayo play at the Kennedy Center.

The program was packed with music! The crowd was huge. And of all ages. Ernesto played a dazzling program of Bach, Mangore, Sor, Brouwer and Rodrigo.

I've heard Ernesto perform for quite awhile, from chamber music performances in Wichita, KS to his Carnegie Hall debut. I haven't heard him sound finer than Sunday night. Simply put,Ernesto is at the top of his game.

Especially astounding was the Mangore set Ernesto included. Not only was it musically moving, but technically spectacular. As a string player, the harmonics Tamayo nailed were pleasing and unbelievable - lottery ticket buying performance - yeah, a performance that was awe-inspiring and jaw dropping.

Ernesto's program was engaging and pleasing. It was great to hear this young guitarist and look to many more concerts and recitals to come. If he's in your area, take some time out to hear a fine classical musician,
one of the brightest of our time.

You can see and hear the concert later on the Kennedy Centers website".
